If that’s a four speed, I think it would have to have been swapped in from a post-’69. Might also have the Dana 20 transfer case. All that + overdrive is actually a lot of good. The trans in it should be swappable to SBF/SBC bellhousings, and from there to just about anything. Even a Volvo engine.

What’s the fourth shifter for? I know you need the trans, transfer case, and I’m assuming the far one is a parking brake.
Also why is Kinja telling me I spelled shifter wrong. Our overlord and savior google says it’s correct.

You can never have too many shifters

It has an accessory Warn overdrive. Possibly “borrowed” from a Jeep, since that’s most likely the later model transfer case which they had in common. That overdrive has a separate lever.

If his description is accurate, he has a later model four-speed box in it *and* the overdrive - which itself is likely worth a grand. It’s basically a five-speed (or an eight-speed if you’re energetic), where a normal Scout of this year would be a three. It’s pretty kickass.

It was a serious suggestion couched as a subtle (okay, not subtle) poke at FS. Enough commonality with modern Ford engine families that taking gear for a 2.3 and attaching it to Ford small-block setups is doable, and enough stuff has gone the other way (SBC into Volvo) that it’s not hard to work up the parts for that either.

It makes sense. A stout 4cyl with a low pressure turbo for a bit extra umph.
